Ben’s New Year Note

It has been another exciting month here with lots of things happening and plans for Christmas and our events for 2018!

All in all 2017 has been a huge year for me, topped off by winning the title of Cornwall Life Magazine Food Hero.

As we move from the colours of autumn to the darkness of winter, 2018 is just around the corner. December is an exciting month kids and adults alike but we are already thinking ahead and into the New Year.

If you need some Twinkling tips for your Christmas then check out my top 12 tips on the website blog.

I’ve been doing some thinking about Christmas and an alternative to a traditional Christmas feast then try our Turbot roasted on the Bone, sprouts, chestnuts, pancetta, roast potatoes, Hollandaise sauce recipe. Perfect for anybody and retains some festive ingredients. It is available on our website.

As we look forward to 2018 join us for a one off opportunity here at Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove. Two Michelin star chefs, one memorable meal. On the 20th January, Xavier Isabal from the Basque country and I will produce a 6-course lunch together – I think it will be something special here at Sennen and is already proving popular with bookings. For more information have a look at the blog post.

Then on 26th January three poets and a musician celebrate birth, death and everything in between. Join Alan Bleakley, Mike Lay, Mike Adams and Frankie Davies on Friday 26th January 2018 from 6.30-10.30pm for a night of poetry and music. For more information see the event blog.

With all that going on, we still taking bookings for Christmas meals and New Year’s Eve. Spend New Year’s Eve by the sea, as we throw a film themed bash. See 2018 in from our fabulous venue, enjoying DJ sets by our brilliant resident DJ Samiad, film quiz, great company and great food. A perfect way to celebrate Christmas and New Year!

Finally, I want to wish you, your family and loved ones a very Merry Christmas from myself, Kinga and the boys and we look forward to seeing you all and another great year in 2018.

Saturday 5th August we are celebrating Oyster Day at Sennen

We’re celebrating National Oyster Day here at Sennen on the 5th August – the most versatile mollusc!  A day when you can celebrate by eating fresh oysters by the Seaside, or for some, buying oyster pearls for loved ones.

The history of Oyster Day is unclear.  Some say that Casanova, that infamous 18th century cad, started his day with a breakfast of 50 oysters.  Whether he ate them, for their aphrodisiac properties or simply because he enjoyed who knows. Others say the history of Oyster Day is simply quite unknown, but it is clear the history of human’s relationship with oyster’s dates back to Roman times as there is evidence of people in the United Kingdom and France farming oysters.

Oyster is the common name for a number of different groups of bivalve molluscs. Some species of oysters are commonly eaten, either cooked or raw, as a delicacy. While other types of oyster, such as pearl oysters, are not normally consumed by humans, they are harvested for their pearls.

So  come and celebrate National Oyster Day with us on the 5th August and slurp up a half shell. We’ll be shucking Oysters in the Surf Den to order all day from opening. Half a dozen followed by a home made pizza and a glass of fizz or chilled white – perfect! And with our resident DJ and Sennen Sounds to chill the mood from 4pm.

A New Den for Ben

Our friends at Business Cornwall called it a “New Den for Ben”, and on Saturday 29th April just in time for summer, the team unveiled the new Den. An outdoor bar which coincided with the release of ‘Head Launcher’, an exclusive ale produced for the restaurant by Skinners Brewery.

Guests enjoyed a fantastic afternoon basking in the sun while enjoying resident DJ Samiad, eating freshly baked pizza cooked perfectly by our Head Chef Adam, and sampling a selection of drinks including the new ale ‘Head Launcher’. ‘Head Launcher’ was inspired by the Sennen Cove Lifeboat which plays a massive part in our local community.

The Den brings the outside in. The bar top itself is styled as resin art – exactly like a surf board by local board shaper and builder Jackson Higgs of Bluff Longboards http://blufflongboards.co.uk/ and constructed using surf board construction techniques and it’s simply quite amazing. The Den has been crafted carefully and has been a labour of love for all those involved.

We are so delighted with our new Den, and want to thank all those involved in making the Den possible and to our staff who worked hard in making this launch happen. A true team effort.

The Surf Den opens on May 5th. Please see our Opening Times for full details. We look forward to seeing you there.

Surf Den Launch With Signature Ale

On Saturday 29th April we are pleased to unveil our new outdoor bar in time for the summer season (the Surf Den)
The launch coincides with the release of Head Launcher, an exclusive ale produced for the restaurant by Skinners Brewery.
The Surf Den is a relaxed spot for beach-lovers and wave-chasers, who can enjoy a thirst-quenching drink, chilled DJ sets and freshly baked pizzas – making it the perfect spot to refuel after a day enjoying Cornish beach life.

Signature ale Head Launcher has been crafted exclusively for the unique setting of Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove and the Surf Den; described as a session beer, the pale ale has a strong malty flavour balanced by floral hops, and a refreshing finish.

The bar opens this Saturday at 12pm, with pizza’s 4 – 8pm. To celebrate our resident DJ Samiad will be playing from 3pm.

The Surf Den opening times from 5th May, will be 7 days, 12pm to 8.30pm.

Look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Introducing: Sennen Sounds

Here at Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove, we can’t think of a better way of spending a summer evening than relaxing on the terrace, with chilled DJ sets on the go, and the chance to enjoy a few drinks with friends.

So, this year we are launching Sennen Sounds; music sessions every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 29th July throughout the summer. Plus, our new outside bar – ‘Surfers Den’ – means you won’t have to stray too far from the last rays of the setting sun.

The fun starts at 9pm and continues until 1am (bar until midnight). We’re not talking Ibiza here – just feel-good music in a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. The bar will be serving a selection of beers, ciders, wines and spirits as well as soft drinks.

After a busy day on the beach, our terrace is a stunning vantage point in which to enjoy a few sundowners (look out for pods of dolphins) and soak up the atmosphere – in one of the most spectacular coastal spots in the whole of the UK…
