Local Surfer Making Waves in National Competitions

Sennen is a mecca for surf enthusiasts from all over the UK. Its position in the heart of Cornwall and at the foot of the country means Sennen is blessed with some of the cleanest and most consistent ocean swell in the UK.

There is some great local surf talent on show every day on the beach and so it’s so great to be able to celebrate when one of our own does so well on a wider stage.
George Carpenter is a local surfer now making waves on a national scale. At the age of just 16 finishing 2nd in the Under 18’s category at the English National Surf Championships in Perrenporth at the start of May. This great result puts George firmly on the national stage and makes him eligible for the national team.
With surfing officially an Olympic sport for 2020, tantalizingly this means George will be in his prime when Tokyo 2020 rolls around and surfing makes its high profile debut.
George hit the waves when he was just 8 but started properly when 10. Now in his 3rd season, he has been building towards this great result finishing in the British Nationals last season with a strong 5th place.

Next up is the Surfaced Pro competition this weekend ( 3,4th June ) at Watergate Bay Cornwall – the first leg of the UK Pro Tour followed by the unique and exciting Pro Night Surf Event at Fistral Beach on the 16th and 17th of June.
Depending on how George fares in these two events he may then travel all the way to Thurso in Scotland for the final event in October with an aim of toping the UK table in the Under 18’s category.

During the summer George is down at Sennen riding the fabulous clean swell we all enjoy and is one of the team of great instructors teaching on the beach. George is following in some fine footsteps and with many previous competition winners in the water every day at Sennen. Your surf instructor could be a current or previous national champion!
Congratulations George on a fine result in the English Nationals. At Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove we’ll all be routing for you this summer in the Pro events and who knows, maybe we’ll have another local hero to cheer in Tokyo 2020 to follow in the footsteps of the great Helen Glover from Newlyn in London 2012. Go George!

Dino Bounces Back With Double 2nd Place

Dino Zamparelli produced his best weekend of the year to take two 2nd place finishes during rounds 5 & 6 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship, to bounce back from the disappointment at Donington Park in April.

Oulton Park in Cheshire, would play hose to rounds 5 & 6 of the championship and despite Practice being set in the summer heat, Saturday morning qualifying was a wet affair. This was to be the first wet qualifying session of the year, and the 24 year Bristol driver produced a solid display with 2nd fastest time, being pipped by rival Dan Cammish in the final few moments for pole.

For Round 5, Zamparelli made a strong getaway from the outside on the rolling start, and would tuck behind Dan Cammish into turn one. However, a huge incident behind with over 10 cars involved, would cause a lengthy stoppage to the race. Thankfully none of the drivers were injured in the crash, and the race was able to be resumed after the delay.

It was a full restart and Dino once again tucked in to 2nd place behind Dan Cammish. From there, the pair traded fastest laps before crossing the line as they were, in a slightly shortened opening race.

For the second race of the weekend, which again took place in sunny conditions on Sunday afternoon, Zamparelli would once again make a solid start off the line and consolidate 2nd place at the start. This time, his times were seemingly not as fast as the leader Dan Cammish, and the top 3 would play out a stalemate race throughout the duration.

Despite a bit of pressure from 3rd place man Eastwood at times during the race, Zamparelli produced another solid defensive drive and comfortably finished 2nd place for the second weekend encounter.

Rounds 7 & 8 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship take place at Le Mans on the 17th/18th of June 2017.

Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove – Revved up for La Dolce Vita

Three car rallies featuring a mix of some of the most beautiful cars have picked Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove as a stunning destination and helped kick off the new Spring / Summer season. All rallies were inspired by the participant’s love of wonderful countryside, fabulous coastal roads and views and quality food and fabulous wine – la dolce vita!
The first rally in March was designed and developed around Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove being the final destination and a fabulous gourmet dinner cooked by Ben and the fabulous Sennen team. Running over three nights, the rally started at the home of British motorsport – Silverstone, heading on to Bristol via the Cotswolds and then on to explore the glorious Quatnocks and onto Cornwall along the Atlantic Coast.

In May we hosted two further rallies, both based in the South West, the St Mawes Classic Car Festival and the Pendennis Shipyard Limited ‘Surf and Turf’ Classic Car Rally.  One rally where guests basked in the glorious sunshine, roofs down in convertibles and the second where the damper weather didn’t dampen spirits and added to the sense of camaraderie for all.

No matter what the weather Sennen Cove is still the perfect destination. Whether it is Jaguar E-Types, Porsches, Bentleys, Corvettes or Morgan’s, Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove is a real destination to arrive and celebrate in style.

A New Den for Ben

Our friends at Business Cornwall called it a “New Den for Ben”, and on Saturday 29th April just in time for summer, the team unveiled the new Den. An outdoor bar which coincided with the release of ‘Head Launcher’, an exclusive ale produced for the restaurant by Skinners Brewery.

Guests enjoyed a fantastic afternoon basking in the sun while enjoying resident DJ Samiad, eating freshly baked pizza cooked perfectly by our Head Chef Adam, and sampling a selection of drinks including the new ale ‘Head Launcher’. ‘Head Launcher’ was inspired by the Sennen Cove Lifeboat which plays a massive part in our local community.

The Den brings the outside in. The bar top itself is styled as resin art – exactly like a surf board by local board shaper and builder Jackson Higgs of Bluff Longboards http://blufflongboards.co.uk/ and constructed using surf board construction techniques and it’s simply quite amazing. The Den has been crafted carefully and has been a labour of love for all those involved.

We are so delighted with our new Den, and want to thank all those involved in making the Den possible and to our staff who worked hard in making this launch happen. A true team effort.

The Surf Den opens on May 5th. Please see our Opening Times for full details. We look forward to seeing you there.

Sennen Spring Beach Clean 2017

April 3rd – 9th. Surfers Against Sewage & Ecover Call For Volunteers To Help Clean Beaches & Dramatically Increase Marine Plastic Recycling

Surfers Afgainst Sewage ( SAS ) have co-ordinated the first big beach clean of 2017 for the week of 3rd – 9th April. As in previous years we expect a large group of volunteers to hit both Sennen and Gwenver to help clear the beach of plastic and other debris to help improve the marine environment and make the beach a nicer place to be in the process.

Dave Muir of Sennen Surfing Centre is the SAS local rep and has been arranging the big beach clean for Sennen and Gwenver for a number of years and will again be co-ordinating the local effort this season.

The big beach clean at Sennen is always a fun event to get involved in with participants enjoying a fun walk along the beach and a good chat and a coffee at Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove afterwards. And it’s great for our precious coastal and marine environment.

This year SAS is expecting over 10,000 volunteers to help remove some 50,000 plastic bottles from our beaches across the UK plus other plastic rubbish washed up with the tide.

Contact the restaurant or Dave Muir at www.sennensurfingcentre.com for further information

Behind the scenes of Silverstone to Sennen 2017

The days are getting ever so slightly longer, the evenings so slightly lighter and the temperature is… well it is the UK, so who is ever to know whether it is rising or falling. All of these factors are exactly what the Drivers Room and Arbuthnot Latham teams need as they continue planning the Silverstone to Sennen Cove 2017 Tour.
Behind the scenes the tour team are working hard to get the final preparations underway, including last adjustments to the route and road book, menu decisions and those all-important finishing touches to make the event one to remember.
The Silverstone to Sennen tour will take guests on a journey fuelled equally both by horse power and petrol, as well as culinary delights and a Michelin Starred Chef.
Starting at Silverstone with a breakfast reception and lunch at the Porsche Experience Centre, guests will have the opportunity to drive a Porsche 911, Cayman and Boxter around the centre circuit, designed to test their skills, along with an instructor. Following this, guests will venture to a hotel outside Bristol for an overnight stay, before heading further down through the South West, ending up in the stunning unspoilt bay in West Cornwall, Sennen Cove.
For those of you that may be reading this wondering if it is too late to sign up to join us on this journey, there are few spaces left for grabs and filling quickly! Any enquiries please email silverstonetosennen@arbuthnot.co.uk stating your interest and our team will be in touch with additional information.
We look forward to sharing more on how our guests got on during and after the tour, taking place from the 15-18th March.
